SRR Etiquette

With final deadlines nearly upon us and exam season looming ever closer, I thought that now would be a good time to remind everyone of some etiquette we like to keep to in the SRR. While these can feel annoying to keep at times, they are important so that we can maintain a place where everyone is able to work productively.

  1. Please remain silent. The SRR is a silent workspace and whispers travel surprisingly far. Please help us keep it silent and make sure that everyone can work well. You can always step outside or go to the Common Room on floor 2 if you would like a break and chat!
  2. No eating. The people around you can be distracted by it and it will attract mice too! This rule applies to all food, even if you do not think it will cause a distraction.
  3. A tidy space. To avoid any trip hazards please keep trailing cables to a minimum. I know this can be difficult sometimes, but try your best!
  4. Be considerate with desks. Please do not leave your desk unoccupied for more than 20 minutes. This is especially important around exams when the SRR gets very busy. Let’s allow everyone to use this space and not block off work space with our belongings.

I think that’s enough nagging for one blog post. I know it sounds pedantic, but this etiquette is in place to try and make the SRR a good place for everyone to work. We have lots of resources available for you to use – not least the books themselves! – including chargers, coloured covers for reading, and of course our volunteers who are always here to help.

I wish everyone the best of luck with their essays and exams and hope that the SRR can help!
