Archaeology Book Display!

Important announcement: the Archaeology Book Collection on the upper level of the HCA Student Research Room will now be home to a book display! If you have been in the SRR recently, you will have seen our Christmas book display; this is an initiative started by our wonderful volunteers Emiley and Eve to release some of our fantastic books from the confines of their shelves, and to help make it easier for our lovely library users to see what books we have available.

We’re aiming to change the display every month or so, displaying books relating to a particular theme. Our displays will be based on the books that we already have in the SRR, and suggestions for future themes are encouraged!! What do you want to see?

Our most recent display which will soon be coming to an end is based on a feature article in current archaeology called ‘From Stonehenge to Santa Claus: the archaeology of Christmas’ (https://the-past.com/feature/from-stonehenge-to-santa-claus-the-archaeology-of-christmas/). The article gives a brief overview of some of the ways in which archaeologist Paul Frodsham links the celebration of the winter solstice to the development of Christmas.

We hope this brought some more colour and fun into the SRR, and that you look forward to our next display theme : Valentine’s Day! <3

How do you make an archaeology book display about Valentine’s Day, you may ask? Are there even books on that? The answer is : come to the SRR and see for yourself    : )
