In our flurry of activity around the visit from our first IIRG visiting scholar Professor Libby Robin (ANU) we would like to announce a call for participants for a linked postgrad master class:
‘Slamming’ the Anthropocene: Environmental Scholarship in the Public Arena’
A Postgraduate Master Class with Professor Libby Robin, Australian National University
Join Professor Libby Robin (Professor of Environmental History at Australian National University and a visiting scholar in the Environmental Humanities at the University of Edinburgh) in ‘slamming’ the Anthropocene. This interactive, object-based session, which borrows the model of the poetry slam, will consider how the strangeness of objects can help us to think about and articulate the strange challenges of ecological crisis. Bring your own ‘Anthropocene object’ and come prepared to make a pitch for how it can also be read as an ‘object of strange change.’
The event is free, but numbers are limited. To apply for a place please tell us about your object of strange change by the 13th of November. We’ll confirm attendees on the 16th.
This master class is part of the Edinburgh Environmental Humanities Network’s ‘Unexpected Encounters with Deep Time’ series, and will be followed by a public lecture from Professor Robin at the National Museum of Scotland (6.30pm, 25th November) and a day workshop on the theme of enchantment (9-5, 26th November) To book a place at either event please use the links below:
