In the final instalment of our three-part series, we’re delighted to present Dr. J.T. Roane from the Arizona State University, who will be giving a talk titled ‘Black Ecologies, Tidewater Virginia.’

FIELDWORK examines how sites and field-based research practices have emerged in the environmental humanities as a common infrastructure across disciplinary boundaries. Exploring the contemporary im/possibilities of fieldwork, the series traces shifting or unreachable environments, sites of extraction, and terrains of struggle. Across three online sessions, our speakers transport us to offshore oil rigs, oceanic field sites, and vernacular infrastructures of ecological resistance. Foregrounding work-in-process and situated research practices, we hope that these talks can offer a space for doing collective study in the field at a time when our research is increasingly isolated, online, and off-site.

This event is free and open to all researchers with an interest in fieldwork, interdisciplinary practice and the environmental humanities.

FIELDWORK is hosted through the Edinburgh Environmental Humanities Network and funded by the Scottish Graduate School of Arts and Humanities.
