EEHN PhD Lab to partake in ESALA’s Prokalo student-led lecture series

The EEHN PhD Lab is taking part in an upcoming Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA)-funded postgraduate lecture series this month.
Since 2004, a seminar series titled ‘Prokalo’, from the Greek ‘to provoke’, aims to promote stimulating discussions bridging topics in Architecture and Landscape Architecture as it relates to the Environmental Humanities. Prokalo gives PhD students the opportunity to hear external lecturers that cross disciplinary boundaries; for PhD students themselves to discuss their work amongst their colleagues; and finally, by providing a physical and virtual place of community gathering.
This year’s theme is titled Encountering Place. During this three-part seminar series, we aim to provoke unique encounters with place to generate new meanings of place. The series begins with large-scale landscapes and ways of knowing these places through artistic expression. In the second lecture, we move to the in-between peri-urban spaces discussing access to nature. Finally, we enter our built environment where we will discuss the human and more-than-human encounters within. The events will feature a guest lecture followed by panel discussions from PGR students in ESALA and the EEHN Lab. They will take place in the Hunter Lecture Theatre and online at 17:00 on 10 April, 17 April, and 24 April, with the final event ending in a reception.
We thank the EEHN PhD Lab members for their participation, especially Alice Barron-Eaves, Anna Stacey and Priyanshu Thapliyal for their participation in the panel discussions and Irene Aldazabal for her artwork for the event.
