Edinburgh Sustainable Innovation Conference 2020

Edinburgh Sustainable Innovation Conference 2020

The Buchanan Institute at the University of Edinburgh invites you to the 3rd annual Edinburgh Sustainable Innovation Conference (ESIC), as we ask students, lecturers, and professionals alike, ‘what is YOUR role in combating climate change?’

This March, ESIC 2020 aims to educate conference attendees on the role of individual responsibility as a means of tackling the present environmental crisis. With an issue as omnipresent and intimidating as climate change, it’s easy to point the finger at big businesses and governments, but if our politicians aren’t doing enough to hold these corporations accountable, this responsibility then falls onto us, as consumers and individual citizens. We must, therefore, ask individuals to reconsider how their purchases, lifestyles, and actions contribute to environmentally destructive corporations, and more importantly, we must empower individuals in their purchases to choose ethics over ease. In other words, ESIC 2020 aims to promote the idea that individual change can and will propel systemic change.

Our focal points this year consist of sustainable fashion, green diet and household/lifestyle choices- and for the first time in Buchanan history- ESIC will feature success stories of young activists, entrepreneurs, and leaders of change from the local community of Edinburgh and beyond. We’re bringing together speakers, panel discussions, interactive workshops, and stalls from the Scottish government, environmental NGOs and enterprises, University professors, and student societies on campus.

This will be a full-day conference, with catering for lunch and coffee/tea in the afternoon. Tickets sell very quickly, so be sure to get yours now before they’re gone! Visit esic2020.org/tickets to join The Buchanan Institute at the forefront of the environmental movement!
