Turkeys are smarter than you think

Turkeys don’t have the best reputation. Like other Galliformes, they are often considered not to be particularly intelligent. And it doesn’t help that they lack a certain ‘cuteness’ factor, which humans tend to associate with other kinds of animals. However, as the excerpt below from the rather brilliant documentary ‘My Life as a Turkey’ by the naturalist and wildlife artist Joe Hutto shows, this is a misconception. By learning to communicate with wild turkeys, he discovered that the animals are quite a bit smarter than their reputation might suggest. And if I may add, surprisingly cute!
