The first day of the Chinese New Year will be on Friday, 12th February, which is the Year of the Ox. To celebrate this festive occasion we decided to create a special colouring book illustration.

Our first port of call was the University of Edinburgh’s Image Collection, where there are over 40,000 images published by the University’s Centre for Research Collections (CRC) under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC BY).

There are some truly wonderful cattle related photos and paintings within these archives:

Interactive Content designer Jackie Aim was most inspired by a miniature contained within a a fifteenth century manuscript of Virgil by the scribe Florius Infortunatus.

Please download this high-resolution image and print a copy for colouring-in at your leisure. Feel free to share your beautiful illustrations by posting them to social media with the CRC hashtag #WeHaveGreatStuff.
