About Willow (formerly NILA)

Willow investigates the linguistics of languages of the world. Willow is a reading and discussion group that focuses on historical, theoretical, and methodological issues concerning the languages of the world, with a particular focus on minoritised and under-resourced languages.

Our general themes include documentation, methods for working with archival materials, preservation and revitalisation, language-internal analyses of understudied languages, and the contributions of these languages to broader linguistic theory. We also want to create opportunities for researchers (especially students and early-career scholars) to present their work in a friendly and supportive environment.

During 2025-2026, our attention will be on documentation and fieldworks, with a selection of papers that deal with these particular issues.

Willow operated before under the name NILA, with a focus on languages from the Americas. See the old About us Page of NILA.
