Air 7 Gearran bha Peadar agus Nigel air ais ann an Lios Mòr airson òraid lìbhrigeadh aig Taproot Sessions ann an Ionad Moluag. | On 7 February Peadar and Nigel were back in Lismore to give a talk as part of the Taproot Sessions at Ionad Moluag: ‘A Lismore poet in the West Indies’
En route, they stopped off at Kilchurn Castle on Lochawe, an area where Dugald MacNicol spent much of his youth.
Summer 2024
The latest issue of Studies in Romanticism has been published, a special issue of the journal on ‘Romanticism, Travel and the Celtic Languages’ edited by Mary-Ann Constantine and Nigel Leask. The volume includes an article co-authored by Nigel Leask and Peadar Ó Muircheartaigh, ‘Travelling Gaels: Coloniality and dislocation in the Gaelic Atlantic‘.
6 July 2024 World Congress of Scottish Literatures
As part of the Fourth World Congress of Scottish Literatures at the University of Nottingham, Nigel and Peadar were presented with the RDS Jack Medal for 2022. They were awarded the medal for their joint article ‘Co-ainm na taca seo an-uiridh: Dugald MacNicol’s Caribbean lament for Argyll’, published in the journal Studies in Scottish Literature 47.2.
Peadar and Nigel also participated in a panel focusing on Gaels in the Caribbean and literary representations of Gaels in the Caribbean alongside Dr Michael Morris of the University of Dundee.
18 April 2024 Research seminar
Ar an 18 Aibreáin, tabharfaidh Peadar caint i nGaeilge (na hÉireann) ag Ollscoil Mhá Nuad áit a ndéanfaidh sé cur síos ar an tionscadal taighde seo mar chuid den tsraith seimineár i Roinn na Nua-Ghaeilge | On 18 April Peadar will give a research seminar at Maynooth University on the research project as part of the seminar series in the Department of Modern Irish.
Spring 2024 Textual seminar
In the spring semester of 2024, we will be reading MacNicol’s Gaelic journal from the original manuscript in a weekly online textual seminar. The seminar is suitable for people with an intermediate command of Gaelic (or advanced command of Irish). Get in touch if you would like to participate.
