Technician Profile, Teaching Technician and Easter Bush Wellbeing Champion – Keith Erskine
What is your role?
Along with my colleague Kirsty Hughes, I am an Easter Bush Wellbeing Champion.
Working with many colleagues across the campus, we have established a joint venture bringing together wellbeing activities which are inclusive for everyone, be they academic, technical and support staff, student, or any other role within our diverse community.
I am just the person who helped connect a lot of brilliant people, all of whom have a shared aim of making Easter Bush an enjoyable and pleasant place to spend time. I come up with ideas and do what I can to help, but I am just a small part of a collective of really good people with an admirable goal.
What do you enjoy most aboLogin ut your role?
I enjoy being part of something that has positive aims and objectives. We live in a very fast-paced world, and people can have a lot of stress in their lives. Many of us spend more time at work or studying than we do with our families, and to me it is vitally important that that time should be as pleasant as possible.
We are a lot more aware of mental health nowadays, and more needs to be done to remove the stigma that once surrounded it. I think more people now understand that it’s just as important to take care of their mental wellbeing as it is their physical health. Anything that can be done to make people feel happier and less stressed is a worthwhile aim, and I enjoy being a part of that.
What’s your favourite pastime?
I enjoy reading, going to the gym, wildlife watching and researching, watching football, travel, and keeping fish… although with a three and a half year old daughter and a baby on the way in January, I don’t get the time to enjoy these things as much as I used to. Instead it’s all about Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig these days!
