Greetings to all my lovely readers!
This is truly a wonderful opportunity to introduce myself to a whole new world of interesting people and to be able to gain insights from individuals thereby enriching each other. A big shout out to the Student Ambassadorship team for having me here!
I am a simple, sunny and thoughtful 25-year-old Indian, studying a stimulating yet serious Masters in Global Mental Health and Society at the University of Edinburgh. This course didn’t appear to me by chance but by what I firmly believe is divine design. During Covid-19, I had to return from Eastern Europe leaving my MBBS course midway as colleges were closed indefinitely. Needless to say, this was a huge set back in my academic journey as it stalled my dreams of becoming a doctor, and brought me to nowhere, a place which is dreadful to be.
The unfortunate course of events did have a depressive impact on my mental health and that’s what got me into considering an undergraduate degree in Psychology. The study of Psychology was interesting but mental upheavals during this period caused me to sail on rocky waters. Every encounter with depression and anxiety made me realize how essential it is to have soul doctors who could be incredibly helpful to millions of people suffering in the face of self-defeating thoughts. I will say that I did my best to do this by writing blogs and creating intermittent podcasts which were also cathartic for me.
Long story short, I was able to complete my UG degree above and beyond my expectations along with garnering many other accolades in co-curricular activities, and all these achievements I believe have been divinely orchestrated. Post to receiving my much-awaited undergrad degree, it was time for some careful consideration to choose a postgraduate course of study, which then drew me to MSc in Global Mental Health and Society. This seems to have opened a different door to understanding mental health on a global perspective.
So, friends, here I am, imbibing each opportunity that is presenting itself for me to utilize, and I hope to use this space to reach out to you as meaningfully and mindfully as possible. Let’s make the best out of what life throws at us! 😊
With love,
Gia
