Introducing our newest writer, Harini!

Blog by Harini

Hello, my name is Harini Satheesh, and I’m thrilled to join the SPS blog as a new writer. Currently in my second year of pursuing a degree in History and Politics, I’ve long been passionate about understanding how nations have interacted across time. My love for history began when my aunt became a history teacher, but it wasn’t until my A-Levels that I realised my deep fascination with foreign policy and its influence on historical and modern political events.

I’m particularly captivated by the Early Modern and Renaissance eras, where treaties, alliances, and wars between nations defined global history. This interest naturally extends to modern-day politics, where globalisation has made international relationships even more intricate. Naturally, I became drawn to the interaction between the women who were in power during the 16th and 17th Century, especially following the blow from John Knox in his book, ‘The First Blast of the Trumpet against the monstrous regiment of Women’, where he challenged female leadership. Because of this, I found that gender politics plays a huge role in international relations, even until this day; studying ‘Understanding Gender in the Contemporary World’ further solidified this view for me.

Just as I analyse the political dynamics of historical periods, I also find that motorsports, particularly Formula 1, offer a contemporary perspective on international relations and politics. The sport not only thrills with its high-speed action but also offers a fascinating intersection of media, politics, and international relations. Formula 1’s global reach offers a unique lens through which to observe international relations, from how races in different countries can reflect political alliances to the political messages sent through the sport’s events and regulations.

I hope to further explore and discuss two interests: first, how nations interact and communicate with one another; second, how Formula 1 intersects with international politics. Prior to joining the blog team, I also run a TikTok account called ‘Let’s Talk Formula,’ where I share insights about F1 and F1 Academy. I’m excited to continue growing the account while bringing my perspectives to this blog.

I look forward to not only sharing my thoughts and research but also learning from this community’s diverse perspectives. Your insights and feedback will play a valuable role in shaping my upcoming blogs, and I’m eager to begin this journey with you. Thank you for welcoming me to this community; I can’t wait to share my thoughts and research with all of you.
