Introducing our new writer, Qixuan!

Hi everyone! I’m Qixuan, but feel free to call me Scott. Currently in my third year, I’m exploring the world of International Relations and International Law here at the University of Edinburgh. It’s a journey that’s as exciting as it is enlightening, and I can’t wait to share a bit of my story with you!

Choosing a joint degree in International Relations and International Law has been a game-changer for me. Honestly, if it weren’t for this degree, I might never have ventured into law courses. Now, it’s not just a part of my studies; it’s steering me towards a career in law. This blend of disciplines has opened my eyes to the intricate dance between global politics and legal frameworks. It’s truly fascinating to see how these two complex fields converge, shaping my understanding of the world in a way that neither could do alone.

Why Edinburgh? To be honest, before setting foot here, I had never visited the city. Coming from China and having spent my high school years in the US, choosing Edinburgh was a leap into the unknown – a bold move, but one I haven’t regretted for a second. The city captivated me instantly, blending its rich history with a vibrant, contemporary vibe. The university’s stellar reputation in social and political sciences was the icing on the cake, promising an intellectually stimulating experience that has lived up to every expectation.

Reflecting on my time currently in Edinburgh, ‘thrilled’ barely covers it. Indeed, the journey has its challenges, most notably the sunny days here are a rare treat rather than the norm. But Edinburgh, as a city, is a character in its own right. It’s a place where history and modernity dance together under often cloudy skies. From wandering the storied streets of the Old Town to enjoying those precious sunny days in The Meadows, the city offers a rich tapestry of experiences. It’s a city that feeds the soul, even when the sun decides to hide.

Here’s to an incredible journey at the University of Edinburgh. I’m excited to share more about my degree, delve into my extracurricular adventures, and explore a variety of other topics with you in the future. Stay tuned!
