Head shot of Stuart ForbesWe are excited to announce the appointment of Profesr Stuart Forbes as the new Regius Chair of Medical Science at the University of Edinburgh. This prestigious position, awarded by the reigning monarch, His Majesty King Charles III, recognises a world-leading medical scientist who has significantly contributed to research and innovation. 

Professor Forbes is Professor of Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine, Head of the School of Regeneration and Repair and Director of the Institute of Regeneration and Repair. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. With a distinguished research career focused on liver regeneration in chronic injury, he aims to develop new therapies for liver disease. In his new role, he will lead an integrated vision for medical research and innovation, developing the University’s BioQuarter as the UK’s leading health innovation district.  

As the Regius Chair, Professor Forbes will lead strategic initiatives and partnerships to expand and shape medical research at the University, striving for maximal impact and societal benefit. His commitment to high-quality research will support improving human health. 

Commenting on his appointment, Professor Forbes said,

Professor Forbes’ appointment follows the retirement of Professor Sir John Savill and marks an opportunity to build upon the already flourishing medical research community at the University of Edinburgh.
