Presentation

In week 5 we were asked to give a two minute presentation, without notes, on how our projects were emerging. The goal for this was to receive feedback and identify areas that the collective felt like our projects could be developed. As I didn’t want to use a script or AI, my notes for this task were brief but gave the group a general idea of both what I am proposing and how this ideas has emerged.

The central idea of my project I want to communicate is that this will not be an exhibition. From my analysis of Postal Art at the Women in Revolt exhibition I much prefer the sense of community that creating brings over making something that has limited subsequent narratives attached. I described this as a ‘hub’, both digitally and physically that will allow people to make work and share it physically, forming genuine connections directly linked to the love of collecting. Tangible physical objects are at the heart of this.

I contextualised this discussion with the introduction of the Craftivism Movement, alongside the magazines Gossip Gossip Gossip and Material Grrrlz. With their love of community, networking, and the conversations we have with each other that surround the creation of work, I think that an understanding of these is important to see where my project lays.

Feedback

From this I was given the helpful suggestions of Glasgow Zine gallery, and the thought that I could make a magazine as record of all that is crafted. I think this is a great area of future research for me and is something that I should test physically. I should also, although this project is speculative, begin to run some events where I can see how the networking commences and evolves beyond the theoretical.

In the group sharings I am the predominant person at giving feedback to the group, using my voice to give a different context to the Collectives’s projects by discussing lesser known British artists that might be relevant. This also allowed for all members of the group to receive feedback, especially when after presenting little was said by others. Linking back to our collectives goals mutual helping.
