This week I reflected on the content related to the exhibition site.
Case Study: Nan Chi Zi Art Museum: “Dian xi yi ben”
The “Dian xi yi ben” project has created an exhibition space within the Nan Chi Zi Art Museum that is both rich in historical connotations and full of modern interactive experiences. The curator, while preserving the original courtyard structure and ancient architectural elements of the site, introduced digital exhibition displays, interactive installations and multimedia projections. As a result, when visitors step into the exhibition hall, they can feel the tranquility of traditional architecture and the vitality of modern technology. This kind of space provides a natural “background” for the display of traditional art. For instance, when presenting traditional opera elements and handicraft techniques, the historical texture of the site was utilized to enhance the audience’s perception of the inheritance of traditional culture.

What I learned: Traditional site renovation is not merely about reusing space; it is also a process of redefining cultural identity. A balance must be struck between “protection” and “renovation”. Both the original historical traces of the site should be respected, and the functional shortcomings should be remedied by modern technologies, so that the exhibition not only has a sense of historical weight but also possesses modern interactive features.
For my exhibition:
I chose the Siheyuan, No. 93 Tie Shu Xie Street, Beijing, as the exhibition site
Contact: rednote number: 2202275691
Funding: The workshop is looking for space co-creators who can use the courtyard site free of charge.
The geographical advantage of Tieshuixiejie is very obvious. It is located near the famous scenic spots in Beijing and has convenient transportation. I plan to post posters in hotels, homestays, coffee shops and other places to attract more potential audiences.
