Avant-Prism: Classroom Manifesto – A Multidisciplinary Curatorial Exploration

Last week, we decided on our group name through online discussions and group discussions. This week, we worked together to decide on the content of our group statement:

⚫️Classroom Discussion: Presenting the Manifesto and Key Debates

During the class, our group members introduced Avant-Prism and its curatorial philosophy, engaging in discussions around the following critical questions:

1. How does culture transform in the era of globalisation and digitalisation?

We referenced historical examples of cultural migration and examined the role of digital spaces. Do they contribute to the dissolution of culture, or do they serve as new platforms for cultural revival?

2. How can curatorial practice embody the ‘Prism Effect’—the idea of cultural refraction?

We proposed using multimedia, immersive experiences, and interactive installations to present cultural narratives from different perspectives.

Feedback from the class helped us realise that curation is not just about exhibiting works but also about constructing dialogues between cultures, disciplines, and audiences.

This is our final manifesto:

⚫️Conclusion: The Future of Avant-Prism

This process—from our initial online discussions to the in-class presentation—helped us clarify Avant-Prism’s fundamental direction: to explore the fluidity of culture in the age of globalisation and digital technology and to use curatorial practice as a method of refracting cultural diversity.

We aim to integrate perspectives from multiple disciplines, combining various cultural viewpoints, media, and theoretical approaches to create thought-provoking curatorial experiences.

Looking ahead, we hope to translate Avant-Prism from a conceptual framework into tangible curatorial projects. By deepening our research on cultural memory, identity, and technological influence, we aspire to use curation as a platform for broader engagement—encouraging more people to reflect on cultural transformation and its complexities.
