1.6 What essential resources and/or new skills do you need for your project to be successful?

Having decided that my project’s mode of representation will be a creative output, I realise I will need to reignite my artistic skills while also keeping an eye on the multiple theoretical disciplines relevant to my thesis. I have broken down each essential resource and skill below.

Creativity

I will need to consider creative skills e.g. video production, coding, poetic techniques, and various physical art forms. I’ll experiment with each of these to figure out which one resonates with me the most, and then I’ll focus my practice on that particular field.

Furthermore, to support my creative exploration, I will require access to physical resources, which might include cameras, video editing software, and art supplies. Initially I will seek these resources within the University, but if necessary I am open to exploring external avenues in Edinburgh, or even London, to secure the essential tools and equipment needed for my creative endeavours.

Philosophy and Ethics

I will need to think back to my undergrad degree and refresh my memory on various philosophical and ethical ideas, particularly the fundamentals e.g. ancient philosophy, Descartes, Kant etc.

Economics, Politics and Financial Theory

Additionally, I’m planning to refresh my knowledge of political and economic systems with a specific focus on capitalism, particularly in its digital manifestation, and socialism/communism. I will begin with an overview and then move on to more detailed knowledge, with the hope that I’ll gain insights which extend beyond surface-level understanding.

Finally, another vital area of study for me will be taxation, particularly in the context of corporate tax. To gain a comprehensive understanding of this subject, I intend to explore real-world examples of high and low corporate tax rates and examine the economic theories that underpin these tax policies. My reading will include both theoretical academic writing and case studies/data, allowing me to develop a well-rounded perspective on taxation’s economic implications.

Preparation for my project will seemingly include a little bit of everything – I look forward to the opportunity to dust off some of the disciplines I’d previously shelved.
