Turner in January
Last weekend I went to the National Galleries of Scotland to visit an exhibition calledTurner in January.
Its official website looks like this:
This exhibition at the National Galleries of Scotland was very different from the ones I’ve browsed through in the past, where I’ve focused on solo artist exhibitions, which are more personal and emotional: the artist’s brushstroke, the artist’s heart, the artist’s soul.
Artists use their unique language to subtly tell people what they want, whereas the Turner January show I saw this week was a large public service exhibition with a large collective of artists with no particular message to convey.
She told me that a lot of the images for this show were from members but some were from non-members, the curators were given a lot of the pictures and it was up to the staff to decide whether to show them or not, the members sent all the images that had been submitted to the computer as well as those that they didn’t like. Accepted paintings are sent to the gallery and then hung together, the staff need to make sure the paintings are safe.
It was an interesting experience!
