WEEK 7

At the beginning of this week I was contacted by Claire via instagram and offered the roles of art assistant and a minor acting part instead of a runner on “Echoes”,  jobs which I decided to accept. We then had a meeting with one of the producers, Desmond, to determine what props would be needed, as well as which ones could be sourced from crew members and which would have to be bought. I brought pictures along to the meeting displaying some of my personal belongings which i thought could be useful when dressing the set, and Claire agreed – specifically highlighting my cups and mugs as well has some cushions and fairy lights, which I was more than. happy to provide. Now with a more clear idea of what was needed for the set, I was able to do a more specific search of my flat for items which would match the aesthetic.

During the meeting I also discussed the possibility of being involved with both costume and makeup. I said I would be willing to partially undertake these roles for “Echoes”, but made sure Claire was aware that I was not in any way a professional when it came to makeup. We settled on the idea that, on the first day of set, Claire would do the makeup of our two main actors, and then I could take reference photos which I could use to recreate the looks, something I was far more comfortable with.

In terms of costume, I offered up some of my own wardrobe but we agreed that my style was not entirely in line for what Claire envisioned for the female protagonist, though I had some items which could work. She informed me that she would be contacting one of her friends with an aesthetic more suited to the female protagonist who would hopefully be able to provide some more costume. She also asked me to get in contact with some of the male members of the crew and inquire as to whether they would be willing to provide some plain (logo-less) clothes for the male protagonists. I did this immediately after she sent me the contact information of these male crew members, and asked that if they did believe they had suitable clothes could they take pictures of them and send them to Claire for a verdict. I also reached out to some of my friends in Edinburgh for possible props, specifically to my flatmates studying fine art, as the protagonists were artists and would therefore need art supplies in their shared apartment. My flatmates were more than happy to provide these items, so I borrowed some of their paints and paintbrushes, as well as sketchpads. I then created a short inventory list to ensure that everything I would be using on set could easily be return to their owners after filming wrapped.
