or
City art festivals and cultural ecology—Take the Edinburgh art festival as an example
Synopsis
In recent years, local art festivals have become popular in various places. These festivals try to introduce innovative energy and rediscover and define the local cultural appearance through the way of entering and deepening the local art. Walking into the city, community and public space, how can the essence of creation communicate with the public in a festive format? How can the art festival and the local culture reflect and become mutual nourishment, and positively communicate the value of symbiosis and co-prosperity? These are topics worth pondering.
Research question
This project explores the relationship between the art festival and the local cultural ecology, as well as the overall direction of the further development of the art festival. Due to the different backgrounds of the art festival organizers and the attributes of the works displayed, the scope of this research is not to judge the works of the art festival from a purely aesthetic point of view. Instead, focus on the current practical discussion of “the relationship between the festival and the locality”, “the social significance and cultural value of the art festival”, and reflect on the role that the art festival could play in the process. Therefore, this study will include the following specific research questions:
1 Is it really as positive as the organizers claim to bring art into the field of life, activate places, and enhance the aesthetic value of life?
2 Is it possible to gather public opinion in the production process of art and cultural activities?
3 Does arts and culture education bring people closer together because art goes out of doors?

Methodology
This study takes the Edinburgh Art Festival, an art festival in the urban space, as the main research object, adopts the participant observation method in qualitative research, and collects and integrates data by literature analysis. Looking at the development of art and cultural festivals in contemporary cities, various discussions have never stopped. However, most of the research is based on case interviews and analysis of data collection methods, and it is difficult to obtain the most authentic internal appearance of the front line. Every event in the process of field research is a kind of reflection reference, which is the advantage of field research. Viewing and recording from the perspective of a third party may be used to re-examine the neglected areas in the implementation of future planning activities.
