Installation, de-installation and team contribution

Installation

  • Venue —- ECA Main Building C.02

I booked the venue in advance for the final exhibition on the 23rd of March.

On 19 April, I went to check out my site and found it filled with other people’s belongings. I tried to find the staff in the Main building and contact them, and as suggested by my tutor Julie Bacon, I left a note on the door. Finally, a big thank you to Julie for contacting other professors in my major and informing their students to come and remove the items. This ensured that my exhibition on 20 April proceeded seamlessly.

I think I made a mistake in not checking the status of the venue a little earlier this time and should have contacted the previous owner of the room a little earlier to ensure that I could use the venue on 20 April without any problems.

  • Artwork installation

I pre-ordered the Computer Display and HDMI Cable on Bookit to display my collection of artwork in video form. However, it was only the day before the exhibition that I found out I could contact Jake to help us borrow a larger TV screen. And I didn’t borrow headphones, which led to the possibility that the sound of the video interview at the exhibition was a bit confusing.

What I think I did better was that I printed out the artwork other than the video in advance. I also travelled to London to transport the ‘Love Letter’ installation to ensure that it would be intact for my exhibition. The artist, YixuanBai, was very impressed with my gesture and it gave me great encouragement and motivation. I would like to thank TianxingPeng for his help during the installation process, as the installation of Love Letter was time consuming and without his help I may not have been able to get it on display in time.

De-installation

To ensure that the exhibition on 21 April went smoothly for the rest of the students, I evacuated all the equipment on the evening of 20 April and returned them on time on 21 April. (display stands, monitors, cables)

Team contribution

I worked with CheyanWang, JiaDing and RuxueLi to create the Gallery Guide, where we grouped the information in the Promotion Text according to the class list and made corrections.
