week 6

On Monday, the class had an online meeting to discuss the proposals that needed to be submitted at the end of the 12 weeks. So my blog this week would like to talk about my research topics, subjects,  and so on.

First of all, my research topic is the impact of COVID-19 on exhibitions. I found that in my hometown, many places have limited travel due to COVID-19, so online exhibitions are a good way to see exhibitions. “Online exhibition is an event which can be viewed on computers and mobile phones using internet anywhere, any place and any time.” (Ramaiah, 2014)People can use the Internet to see online exhibitions from different parts of the world, which can effectively avoid the turnover of people and reduce the cost of travel. iMuseum, for example, is a great show-watching software. Every day, the app posts information about exhibitions in different parts of the world. In addition, virtual exhibition tour and virtual reality exhibition has been a new and hot topic in recent years. For example,  the  virtual exhibition tour of Tutankhamun London in 2020 (video 1) and MoNA Presents “Tangential Stress 2020” – Online Virtual Exhibition at youtbe. (video 2)  It is obvious that some of famous exhibitions have started to use the method of online immersive virtual exhibition.

Secondly, my research object maybe is some  virtual reality exhibitions platforms. For example, artsteps and spatial, two popular apps, allow people to create their own exhibitions using 3d model  and then view them online once they are posted. (video 3)

Thirdly, if I can invite some professionals who have created virtual reality exhibitions, I will take Interviews and conversations. Interviews and conversations are also one of the methods of anthropological investigation.

Finally, the budget. The budget for my proposal should be zero. Because a lot of what I’m going to investigate is available on the Internet. However, if I need to interview professionals in this field later, I may have to pay for the interview and associated equipment costs.

To sum up, I haven’t settled on a more detailed proposal theme yet. I’m probably exploring online virtual exhibitions and virtual reality exhibitions related to COVID-19. I will elaborate on my topic in a blog post in the coming weeks. This is what I thought about the final proposal in Week 6. Thanks for reading.
