Week 6 | Programme Meeting with Rachael

3 March 2022

During this programming session, I was surprised that the curatorial organisation had so many positions – I had previously known that an organisation would have many staff members, but it was through the Miro board that I first became clear about the responsibilities of each position and how they were classified.

In the meeting, Rachael analysed in detail the responsibilities of each position, what functions the position entailed and so on. In total, we ended up with a summary of 13 positions, for which we wrote detailed notes.

Each CAT member then wrote down on their sticky notes the words they are skilled at or interested in, the words that represents a gap for, and the words they are interested in learning more about.

I was honestly horrified at this step. Given my extreme lack of confidence in myself, it was hard for me to be clear about what I was good at. But I knew exactly what I was afraid of (communicating with people), so I refused to become a spokesperson.

I ended up becoming an ‘Archivist’ because I felt it was a clerical type position and I do like long term think and to co-ordinate the whole project (not in a lead capacity).

Through this meeting, I learned about the staffing in the organisation and took on the role of Archivist in The Programme. Hopefully I’ll be up to the task (and not hold the project back).
