Week 7 | Tutorial with Prof. Neil
10 March 2022
Tutorial about individual project.
I wasn’t able to get the results about my personal project in class during Tuesday’s Project Crits.
At first I wanted to do a project related to contemporary feminist art, but I was unsuccessful. The other members of the group helped me in the class and they gave me many examples. They also inspired me when they told me about their projects.
After the course I wandered around Edinburgh and the fresh air soothed me.
During a one-on-one Tutorial with Professor Neil on Thursday, I told the professor that I wanted to make a virtual artwork capture app like the Pokemon go game.
My idea is simple, the Covid-19 has forced people to keep social distance, indoors we have to wear masks and I’m fed up with this. I wish I could be outdoors, and it would be great to be outdoors and be exposed to art at the same time. So I fantasised about this app that I could take with me on my outdoor adventures and collect art at the same time.
During the discussion Prof. Neil did not object to my proposal and he gave me many examples to open my mind. For example, he introduced me to the app “Geocaching” – which really surprised me, I hadn’t heard of it in China. There was also the sculpture park “Jupiter artland”, and the “Alternate Reality Games” (Escape Room). Also the professor wanted me to think about the site for the project and what platforms might be used for the project? How do participants get access to the virtual artwork, need clues or anything else?
After the course I worked on the miro board to collate the content of my project and to find more relevant information to improve my project based on the clues given by the professor.
