Week 5 | 1:1 Tutorial with Prof Neil

Organisation Report

After my first tutorial with Professor Neil about the organisation report, I chose Creative time as an example for my report.

After researching Creative time’s values and vision, I became confused as the organisation hosts so many exhibitions and has many summits. Which aspect of the organisation should I start exploring?

Professor Neil gave me help when I had a discussion with him. He said that I should pick a project that I was interested in to help me get into the organisation. As Creative time has been established for over 40 years, I was not able to get an insight into all the operations of the organisation in a short period of time. So pick a project that stood out to me and let that project show me how the organisation works, how project itself has its own space and how it fits in with other projects.

During the conversation, Professor Neil opened up a project called ‘The Last Stand’ (which was also the project I was concentrating on) and explained to me what part of the project I should focus on.

In addition, Professor Neil gave an example about how organisations get financial support. When I visited art exhibitions before, I hadn’t thought about how exactly exhibitions are financially supported either. So this was a good entry point for me to learn something new .

Also Professor Neil touched on topics such as how public art organisations can work with artists and how organisations can engage people.

Professor Neil’s advice was excellent and I ended up following his lead and looking for a project with more information on the website as an example of research to complete my organisational report.
