I was a bit unsure how to use the project space as I didn’t feel like I had enough work to test with. So one thing I was interested in was to create something with moving image inside. For this test I used paper to create a rock like form and then cut a hole to view the moving image work, that was a short clip of hands moving in a in-between rock and water. I don’t think the material works well necessarily so this is something I’m going to develop, thinking about a shell like form using material like bioplastic or possibly metal. I think I need to reflect on the relation between the material and the environment the film work is taking place. I placed sections of bioplastic on the form, which a layering of materials could be interesting, also developing a texture on the bioplastic that has connotation to rock. I think casting directly from a rock will work well to get a natural form rather than the form the paper makes. I also played with layering a casts from jesmonite and tracing paper forms under the metal, and placing them around the metal, I think it could be interesting thinking about and shaped cast that can’t fit into the cut out shapes of the metal. I also curt out images of natural holds in the rock alongside the the 3d printed holds I had made and then cast. Playing with natural and unnatural.
