Photos from a pilot art programme I have been working on with Choices4Growth (a Berwick based children’s mental health organisation) over the last few months. The aim of the project was to provide everyone who took part time and space to reflect and explore ways to cope with change.

I worked with two local First schools, with Years 1-4 in one and Years 3-4 in the other, over 8 weeks. I made a handmade book for each child using the work they produced. I also displayed a selection of the work (with consent from the children) in a shop window on the high street in Berwick.

The children used expressive mark-making, words and drawings to show how their feelings had changed during the pandemic.

Through cyanotypes and scanner photograms, the children discovered how objects can hold many meanings and remind us of moments in time.
