I was listening to music even more often these days. Was trying to imagine colour when I hear certain notes and tones. Seems that my theme is leading me towards choosing soft and pastel colours. Representing the positivity and cheerfulness of the pentatonic scale I chose to work with.
These are also the fabrics that I will be more or less working with. Most of them are scraps from my previous work (I have a problem of hoarding). This is a collection of really different fabrics. Different make, texture, weight, function. From heavy wool to tulle, velvet to silk. I am really excited to start experimenting!
I coded each musical note with the colour.
There will be many exeptions to the rule. Whenever I will be layering accordingly to my design studies I will use less colour. Assign colours to different layers etc.
Before I start sampling.. Let’s look for some inspiration!
Look at the intricacy of Jilli Blackwood’s work, so many layers, so much depth and texture. Her works Heavenly Reality, Rhythm I, Static Dynamic, are so lush in colour, different techniques and hard work. I am inspired to be brave with the use of materials and let the fabric direct me. https://jilliblackwood.com
On the contrary to Jilli Blackwood, Richard McVetis’s Work is really minimal. I love the way he introduces textiles to other medias.
The precision of his work is mesmerising. What a great inspiration for my embroidery work! https://www.richardmcvetis.co.uk
I came across Jasmine Eligton’s work for the first time a year ago at the ECA degree show. Since then I am following artist’s work and her development. I am impressed by the way she uses unconventional materials, how organic her pieces look. The tactile sensation of her wearable art must be so pleasing. https://www.jasminelinington.com
Let’s have a look into fashion! Molly Goddard! Amazing fabric manipulation! Simple but yet really impressive. Showing the full potential of chosen fabrics. https://mollygoddard.com
Never disappointing Iris Van Herpen. She is an inspiration to most of my projects. Optical illusion, interesting cuts – those are the things I will be looking into. https://www.irisvanherpen.com
I spent long hours researching. I think it is time to start working hands on. I will base my samples on the research, as well as will let my work to lead me.
Keep your eyes open for my next post!
Excellent references and delighted to see that you have put in the links to the websites too.
Now consider adding tags.
You might also use categories too which would help sub-divide your projects for the course?
Well done.
Thank you for the insightful suggestions!
