My idea comes from my actual experience, well, my grandfather has worked as a funeral Taoist for almost twenty years in China, I have seen those funeral traditions in person. It is really different from the West, to me, I think that Western funerals are quite simple and given people real comfort in certain ways. However, the Chinese funeral is the total opposite, it is loud, noisy, dramatic and to be honest, I didn’t see comforts delivered to the people who have lost their family members. The funeral service shops are so small, shabby, and crowded with traditional items, people who are passing by just want to hurry up and leave, do not want to have eye contact with the shop, death is taboo for Chinese people. I don’t like the missing part of Chinese funerals, which is bringing comforts and memorizing the dead, thinking those nice memories happened in the past. So I hope to create and design a funeral service center for various and different cultural needs, improve the idea of bringing comfort and memorizing the dead, at the same time, embrace the culture.
