In response to the photographs from my last post, where I emphasised my interest in presenting rusted surfaces and junk materials as art in their own right, I decided to work in the medium of prints, in order to capture the textured surfaces and atmosphere of these photographs. I designed stencils which represented the subjects of the photographs, in particular the linear shapes of scrap objects: broken doors, chairs, and windows, and layered them to form an abstract shape. I used the colours of blue and hints of yellow and orange to create a bold and contrasting finish, whilst the texture of the rolled paint gives the illusion of transparency as well as mirroring a rusted surface.
