This was a very fun and educating exercise. We were given a simple glass box structure, it’s position on the map, and a purpose for the building. And, in a small group of four, we were to come up with a basic lighting strategy that could allow others to guess the purpose.  The quick nature of the task meant we had to put whatever knowledge we had retained to use without second guessing ourselves too much. Our strategy was for a community space for games and crafts for the elderly. We designated two zones; one for tables and chairs and one for more comfy lounging. For the former we planned out a track system split into six sections which would allow the luminaires to be places over the tables no matter how they are rearranged. For the latter we planned fixed recessed down lights to provide general lighting and then free standing task lighting to be used as desired. We also introduced a curtain to control the natural light coming in, especially from the south west corner, where the sun will be coming it strongest during the day.
