Above I used this stereographic sunpath to trace where the sun would have been in the sky when I was born (pink line) and when my sister was born (purple line). I really enjoyed this exercise. I’ve always wanted to be more aware of where the Sun is throughout the year so this task was very enjoyable and also super simple to use and understand.

Above, using a Sun path chart and a phone torch, I traced how the resulting shadow from the ‘sun’ changes during the day.  As expected the shadow is shortest when the sun is mostly overhead around midday and at its longest when the sun is low down, rising or setting. Seeing the simplicity and consistency of this effect left a lasting impression.
