My ideas and influences for the postcard project came from sitting on my bed, staring at my wall and just hoping for some creative thoughts and ideas to enter my mind. I took this a little too literally however and drew my inspiration directly off of my wall, my original 1967 ‘The Deadly Bees’ poster to be exact.

I started thinking about the world and reality we are living in and how truly annoying this pandemic is. I sat and stared at the annoying pests swarming Suzanna Leigh in the poster and really drew a connection between these and the virus. The fear in her eyes resonated with the fear I’d seen in so many others. I started imagining her wearing a mask and these bees turning into oversized coronavirus molecules.

I then started making my postcards. I wanted to stick with using items that I had lying around my flat. My first postcard was created on photoshop by playing around with a collage look, I think this is my least favourite postcard as it wasn’t very hard or fun to make. I then decided I really wanted to get  my hands dirty and craft this postcard in real life. I really enjoyed this process and adding the collage pieces one by one. For my other postcards I thought about using a Polaroid camera; with no access to a printer I thought this would be an interesting test. I played around with this idea and used different cameras and different types of film. These were definitley my favourite to make as I got to annoy my flatmate by constantly asking her to model, mess with cool types of film and scribble on top of them with POSCA pens!

Overall, I really enjoyed this project and found the process really entertaining and fun and it was a nice ease back into work.
