SEM2 W3 Research Design-Method
Methodology: What is your overall project design – what will you do, for what purpose, and in what order? What specific methods or approaches do you plan to use? What are the key features, benefits and limitations of your chosen methods, and how will they help you answer your question(s)? What are the possible risks or issues you have to be aware of, and how will you address them if they arise?
I will use qualitative data in my project, collected from interviews and questionnaires. Aiming to gather ideas to help me design the platform to make the prototype more practical and ready to build a real one.
I am going to collect data from interviews with the brands first. It will be the ideas/feedback/concerns about the website. I think I will use semi-structured interviews, including set of questions, while allow for flexibility in probing deeper into participants’ responses.
I also then collect data from questionnaires with the designers to hear their ideas about the details of the website. I am not sure will I design it like a scores format, for example from dislike to very like: :1 -5. I will have the first version of the questionnaires and discuss them with my supervisor.
The benefits are the data are first hand and it can directly affect the details of building a website. The limitations are maybe the potential bias from the interviewer, my preconceptions may influence the interview process or interviewees will have personal preferences that may affect the design.
I haven’t figured it out the risks yet. I will continue to think about it.
Also I do not know how to employ rigorous qualitative data analysis techniques, such as thematic analysis or grounded theory, to identify patterns, themes, and insights emerging from the interview transcripts. It needs some time to delve into.
Interesting to see your project develop Yumeng. I can really recommend this book by Braun and Clark to guide thematic analysis https://discovered.ed.ac.uk/discovery/fulldisplay?vid=44UOE_INST:44UOE_VU2&tab=Everything&docid=alma9925163697402466&lang=en&context=L
