My initial idea for this project was a comic strip style illustration showing somebody covering up a traditional painting with an advertisement for a modern art show. However it was decided that this would be quite a complicated concept to convey in a comic strip. I liked the idea however, so I made a digital piece with a similar concept, using photoshop to layer famous abstract paintings over a John Singer Sargent portrait. I altered the opacity, clipped and moved sections, and used different modes to create an arrangement that revealed enough of the portrait whilst also distorting it enough.
