initial drawing cut into sections

painted pieces of cardboard

After looking at Peter Lanyon’s sculptures, I decided to create a 3D piece from a drawing. I first made a quick sketch of my window sill and curtain, and cut this into sections (defined by shapes and tones). I then pasted this onto a piece of cardboard, which I cut up and painted (using the rough tones from my drawing). Finally, I arranged the bits of cardboard into a freestanding sculpture, by slotting the pieces together and balancing them on top of each other. This turned into an interesting piece, and made me think about how my drawings can be developed into different mediums and made 3D.
