Welcome to the Royal Society of Edinburgh Network on the British Empire, Scotland, and Indian famines. This Network is a collaboration between the University of Edinburgh and two institutions in India, IIIT Guwahati in Guwahati and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology in West Bengal. The project starts in March 2022 and will see four events in the next two years in Scotland and India. There will be two conferences in Edinburgh and Guwahati, a public talk and authors’ workshop at the National Library of Scotland, Edinburgh, and a public event in Kolkata. We will bring together scholars and public bodies to interrogate (colonial) famines and their prevention in the British empire. We will publish a select list of papers in academic journals and edited volumes and an article broadly on the findings of the conferences and workshop in news media. Our aim is to bring together scholars and people from different parts of the world interested in these conversations  and encourage collaborations and enable future scholars to work on these crucial events in modern Indian history, global famines, disaster cultures, global food policy, and international relation.
