You might have decided that 2024 is the time to take on a new challenge or may know of others seeking a new opportunity. I encourage you to look at the details for the position of Head of REF, Research Planning and Performance, a new, open-ended role within Edinburgh Research Office (ERO).
The closing date for this job opportunity is 30 January 2024, 23:59. You can find the job description and specifications via the job advert linked below but in this blog post I would also like to give you outline of the role and what we are looking for in the successful candidate.
The University has adopted a Research and Innovation Strategy (launching soon) and has embarked on an ambitious delivery plan: the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring our success in the lead up to REF 2029 and beyond.
We’re looking for a research management professional with experience of working on a REF submission who is able to lead a core team responsible for coordinating preparations for the next REF activity across the University. The successful candidate will be ambitious and will also have a record of delivering performance enhancing projects, as this role will look further than REF and will involve designing evidence-based initiatives which improve the University’s research performance. This is an open-ended position because we recognise that research planning and performance is a continuous part of the University’s business.
The Head of REF, Research Planning and Performance will work with other colleagues in ERO as well as colleagues across the University ranging from members of the University’s Senior Leadership team, to professional services colleagues in the three Colleges and diverse range of service units such as Finance, HR, Edinburgh Innovations to name but a few.
If you have experience of REF planning and submission and would like an opportunity to contribute to Edinburgh’s driving ambition to deliver world leading research and innovation, I encourage you to apply.
If you are interested in the role and would like to discuss it informally before applying you can contact me, Lorna Thomson, Director of Edinburgh Research Office.
