Human Library – Creating Connections within the Research Support Services Community

Building on the success of its debut at the 2023 Research Support Services Conference, the Edinburgh Research Office is excited to have launched our Human Library.

The Human Library is not your typical library; rather than borrowing books, here, you borrow time—specifically, the time of your colleagues within the Research Support Services community.

This innovative approach creates a unique space for Research Support Services colleagues to come together, share their stories, and exchange insights.

By participating in the Human Library, you gain more than just knowledge—you create meaningful connections, broaden your network, and foster professional growth. Whether you are seeking specific guidance or exploring new collaboration opportunities there is something for everyone at the Human Library.

Borrow a Book

Borrowing a human book is easy and our library has been designed as a self-service resource.

How does it work? First, browse our virtual bookshelf of colleagues from around the University who have generously offered their time and expertise. Next, identify the individual whose insights align with your interests and professional goals. Finally, contact your chosen human book and arrange a meeting, either online or in person, that suits both your schedules.

Be a book

Could you help a colleague by sharing your career journey? Have you been involved in work you think others would love to hear about? Do you describe yourself as an open book and enjoy sharing your experiences?

If yes, we would like to invite you to become a human book and be added to our virtual bookshelf. By being a book, you can meet new colleagues and become part of a supportive, knowledge sharing community.

So, why wait? Get involved and help us connect and grow our vibrant community of Research Support Services here at the University of Edinburgh, one conversation at a time.
