The inaugural Impact Festival at the University of Edinburgh takes place 28-30 May and will celebrate the engagement and impact of the University’s research. In this blog post Anne Sofie Laegran, Head of Research Impact, shares details about some of the events.
The Impact Festival will be held during 28-30 May and comprises a programme of 25 events where we’ll be invited to learn from the successes and challenges that colleagues across the University have experienced when engaging with industry, communities, policy makers and practitioners to maximise the benefit of their research.
It is an internal event that is aimed at the University research community and you can explore the full programme on the Impact Festival site.
Here are some examples of the events on offer:
Engaging with policy – regulating change: Hear Professor Luke Bisby, Professor Michael Eddleston and Dr Anne Sorbie share experience on influencing regulation and policy in areas as different as fire safety, toxicology and health regulatory practice. Impact from Partnerships: Academic colleagues will bring along their external partners to share experiences on how they collaborate to make life better for people with ME/CFS, enthuse children to read, and bring new solutions to heating which has created jobs as well as reduced food poverty. Scaling up and sustaining impact: Learn how colleagues in the Business School and Neurosciences have worked with beneficiaries of their research and are developing creative business models to allow their impact to go on after the end of the awards. Researcher Realities: Generating impact via the news media: Professors Linda Bauld and Jim Wilson will share how they have generated impact through news media with the support from Communication and Marketing at their event on the 29 May. Engagement and Impact by Early Career Researchers: It is never too early to start engaging for research to have impact so, there are dedicated sessions where Early Career Researchers share their impact journeys on the Tuesday 28 May and Wednesday 29 May.
