Successful recipients for 2024/25

We are delighted to announce that we will support thirteen new projects in 2024/25, spanning all three colleges and led by researchers at various stages in their careers. You can find out about the exciting projects which we have funded via the page below:

What is the Big Ideas Accelerator?

The Big Ideas Accelerator is an exciting new seed-funding scheme which aims to nurture radically interdisciplinary networks and ideas. Supported by the Office of Christina Boswell, Vice-Principal Research and Enterprise, the fund targets radical proposals, enabling them to develop into significant programmes of research.

One principle of the Big Ideas Accelerator is that inspiration may strike at any point in your career, whether you are just starting out or have a long track record of successful funding. We want to hear from you all!

The BIA fund focuses on building interdisciplinary capacity through two strands of work, supporting the development of both innovative collaborations and disruptive, new ideas. All of the projects that we are supporting over the next year promise to break new ground and grow connections across our colleges in areas that are set to become the crucial research areas of tomorrow.

The fund encourages proposals across all research areas, this year, however, we particularly invited projects aligned with the University’s major interdisciplinary missions:

  • Data, Digital & AI
  • Future Health & Care
  • Climate & Sustainability

Learn more about the scheme, and plan your application for next year’s opportunity, via the UoE Big Ideas Accelerator page.
