New resources to help you with your ERC application

Thinking about applying for European Research Council Grant? Boz Czarnecki, Proposal Development Executive (EU & International), summarises new resources to help you develop your application and make the most of the support ERO offers.

In Edinburgh Research Office we have particular strengths in enabling successful applications across ERC Starting, Consolidator and Advanced Grants. The University has secured more than €145M across almost 100 projects during Horizon 2020, the ERC funding program which ran from 2014-2020. The University is the tenth most successful in Europe, and fourth in the UK, in terms of securing ERC awards.

We provide resources, information and proposal development support for researchers applying to the ERC.

What’s new?

Dedicated ERC grant pages – Starting, Consolidator and Advanced – bring together self-service resources for each grant:

  • annotated B1 and B2 templates
  • compiled feedback from the ERC evaluators
  • examples of successful UoE application
  • information on how to add host details in the EU portal.

You will also find our curated selection of links to resources on the ERC website:

  • information for applicants
  • evaluation panels
  • guidance for evaluators
  • relevant events – whether held by ERO or externally – and, where available, recordings of these events.

As well as these self-service resources, we have included information on the two main components of our ERC service for ERC applicants

  • core application support (available to all applicants)
  • proposal development support (a limited availability service)

and timelines indicating when to contact us.

How you will benefit

We want to ensure that everyone within the UoE research community has direct access to information that will help them prepare a competitive ERC proposal. From now on, you don’t need to e-mail us to request ERC applicant’s packs; simply visit the relevant page.

Information about the service we offer and corresponding timelines will give you an overview of what you can expect from us when working on your ERC submission; and when to contact us to ensure we can meet these expectations.

Importantly, because provisional ERC deadlines are usually known far in advance, we will be able to publish the ERO timelines well ahead of these deadlines. When we do, we will also share this information through your local Research Office and on @GrowingYourIdea.

Upcoming call – ERC Advanced Grant

The next ERC call due to be announced on 20 May 2021 is for the Advanced Grant, with the funder deadline on 31 August 2021. Please see the Advanced Grant section of our resources for more details.
