EU Green Deal call: Applications opening soon

Boz Czarnecki, Proposal Development Executive, outlines the details of the EU Green Deal call. Your participation is strongly encouraged. We will be running events for our researchers to find out more about this opportunity.

As part of its commitment to make Europe climate-neutral by 2050, the European Commission (EC) is launching a dedicated Green Deal call to support relevant research and innovation initiatives. This call comes under the current funding programme, Horizon 2020 (H2020); therefore, successful applications from UK-based organisations are eligible and will be funded.

What will the call fund?

Types of initiatives the EC will support within the Green Deal call:

  • pilot applications, demonstration projects and innovative products
  • innovation for better governance of the green and digital transition
  • social and value chain innovation.

How can I find out more?

The approved call text has been published. Edinburgh Research Office will also host events for our research community, where you will have an opportunity to learn more about the Green Deal call topics. These events will be advertised on our website.

Deadline

Specific topics within the Green Deal call will open for submissions in mid-September 2020 and proposals will be accepted until the deadline on 26 January 2021.

Confirmation of eligibility

UK participants can continue to receive EU grant funding for the lifetime of individual Horizon 2020 projects, including projects finishing after 31 December 2020 when the transition period ends. As such UK scientists, researchers and businesses can continue to participate in and lead projects in the Green Deal call and can apply to receive their grant funding through the H2020 programme.

The University of Edinburgh strongly encourages its researchers to continue to bid into calls for the lifetime of the H2020 programme. If successful, funding will be provided by the EC.
