In Scottish and Samoan Primary and Secondary Schools, Selina Tusitala Marsh leads young poets to discover their own poetic voices. Marsh’s Blackout poetry exercises encourage students to make their own poems out of the words and writing of Robert Louis Stevenson. Each student is given a thick black pen, the first page of ‘The Beach of Falasa’ and the instruction to ‘black out’ all the text except a few select, chosen words. This creates a brand new poem using Stevenson’s very own language!
