This is a collaboration among Jason Bruges, the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI), Design Informatics and uCreate of the University of Edinburgh. This workshop is funded by the Student Experience Grant of the University of Edinburgh. We also received valuable support by the British Architectural firm responsible for the innovation of the EFI Building, the Bennetts Associates

Jason Bruges studio

Jason Bruges Studio has become internationally renowned for producing innovative installations, interventions and ground breaking works.

Jason Bruges' practice involves creating interactive spaces and surfaces that sit between the world of architecture, site specific installation art and interaction design.

Considered a pioneer of this hybrid in-between space, Jason has subsequently paved the way for a new genre of design studios, artists and designer-makers.

Edinburgh Futures Institute
https://efi.ed.ac.uk/online-tour/

The purpose of the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) is to pursue knowledge and understanding that supports the navigation of complex futures. EFI’s distinctiveness stems from our approach to research, education and engagement – an approach that combines multi-disciplinarity with co-production.

Working with industry, government and communities (at home and abroad) we will build a challenge-led and data-rich portfolio of activity that has demonstrable ethical, social, cultural, economic and environmental impacts.

Design Informatics
https://www.designinformatics.org/

In the Institute for Design Informatics, we design systems for better human data interaction, in diverse settings such as health, culture, mobility and finance.

We explore design from, with, and by data: the central concern is the design of flows of data which sustain and enhance human values.

Relevant technologies range from the internet of things, through blockchains, to robotics, speech recognition, data visualisation, interaction design, and social computing.

Student experience grant
https://www.ed.ac.uk/student-experience-grants

Student experience grant: Edinburgh is a place for independent, creative and critical thinkers to develop as innovators, researchers and explorers. We know there are many ways for this development to take place. It could be within your course of study or research, or as part of activities in the wider student, university or civic community.

We believe in supporting projects that will help students to grow.

Providing the resources and opportunities that allow students to make the most of their time at the University will benefit the whole community as they harness this experience and build on it in their careers.

Bennetts Associates

Bennetts Associates: We strive to create truly enduring architecture that is more than skin deep.

We believe that timeless, humane and beautifully crafted architecture expresses the indivisibility of space, fabric, structure and services. We believe that the best buildings reveal their beauty and utility over time. We address with conviction urban place-making, genuine functionality and believe that truly long-lasting architecture is underpinned by our pioneering expertise in sustainability.

Our portfolio of projects is deliberately diverse across a wide range of sectors, scales and complexities in both the public and private sector. The variety and potential of cross-fertilisation of ideas between typologies generates a creative stimulus that we enjoy. Whilst being generalists, we have acknowledged specialist expertise in a number of areas such as workplace, arts/culture, education, masterplanning and sustainability.
