Hongxia Xu (Renmin University of China, Beijing) will present a paper entitled:

Care, Life Course, and Leisure Practice: A Comparative Study of Dorothy Wordsworth and Gu Taiqing

Abstract:
This lecture brings together the writings of Dorothy Wordsworth and Gu Taiqing to explore how “leisure” is shaped by care relations and life stage. Through close reading of their journals and poetry, it traces how both nineteenth-century writers negotiated gendered constraints and actively carved out space for writing.
