Save a Life

Three generations of students from the Master of Nursing in Clinical Research joined a contingent of lifesavers in the heart of Scotland’s capital on Friday 16th October 2015.
European Restart a Heart Day was marked in Edinburgh by the launch of an initiative branded Save A Life for Scotland. The campaign aims to train members of the public in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in order to improve survival rates in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. The launch event involved a giant marquee on The Mound filled with CPR mannequins and charity partners such as the British Heart Foundation and Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland. The event was staffed by the Resuscitation Research Group (RRG) and the Emergency Medicine Research Group Edinburgh (EMERGE) along with many willing volunteers. Members of the public were encouraged to learn CPR from registered trainers then have their photo taken and sign the picture to pledge support with the phrase I’ll do it.
Adam Lloyd (left), who undertook the MN in Clinical Research in 2013-14, is undertaking a PhD within RRG exploring the non-technical skills of nurses in resuscitation situations, Ellie Dowle (centre) is currently undertaking her MN in Clinical Research and is attached to EMERGE to gain research experience, whilst Allan MacRaild (right), who has just completed his MN in Clinical Research, is a senior research nurse with EMERGE investigating delirium triage tools. The University of Edinburgh alumni were all delighted to play an active part in such a vital campaign. More information about the CPR campaign can be found at www.Savealife.scot
