This year everyone was celebrating, alongside Nursing Studies having its Jubilee year, the Royal College of Nursing celebrates being 100 years old.

Throughout the three days showcasing excellent research, there was plenty opportunity for networking and sharing Nursing Studies stories and history.

The first keynote speaker was Pam Smith on her Nursing journey, which includes her with us currently as Professorial Fellow in Nursing Studies, and considered ‘Nursing at the Extremes’.

Former head of the Nursing Studies Research Unit, Alison Tierney spoke on the second morning of the conference highlighting the importance of the Nursing Studies department in nursing research and academic scholarship.

We were also able to spend time in in the University of Edinburgh’s Playfair Library, hosted by head of School Charlotte Clarke, and invited guest Fiona McQueen.

We also attended the City Chambers hosted by the three HEI’s in Edinburgh providing nurse education.  This evening included the Lord Provost and some invited guests who were also able to celebrate long nursing careers.

There was also an opportunity to capture memories of Nursing Studies in an alumni fringe event at the conference, all adding to our exciting year of celebrations.
